چکیده

Acesulfame potassium (ACE-K) is an artificial sweetener widely used in many foods. This investigation assessed the cytotoxic effect of ACE-K using MTT assay human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell line and genotoxic chromosomal aberrations (CAs), micronucleus (MN), comet assays lymphocytes. 7.5-240 ?g/mL concentrations were applied to cells. notably decreased viability on HepG2 cells, especially at 120 240 24 48 h. It also significantly reduced mitotic index (MI) 60, 120, both treatments (24 h) The frequency CAs increased for h treatment compared control. However, no difference was observed MN nuclear division (NDI) all treatments. induced tail length, intensity, moment 15 isolated Therefore, showed a cells as well lymphocytes higher concentrations. exhibits mild by increasing long-term DNA damaging only ?g/mL.

Testing Needed for Acesulfame Potassium, an Artificial Sweetener

Potassium, an Artificial Sweetener In their article “First Experimental Demonstration of the Multipotential Carcinogenic Effects of Aspartame Administered in the Feed of Sprague-Dawley Rats,” Soffritti et al. (2006) present interesting data on the carcinogenic effects of longterm exposure to aspartame, an artificial sweetener, in experimental animals (rats). Recently, aspartame was supplanted a...

Bitterness of the non-nutritive sweetener acesulfame potassium varies with polymorphisms in TAS2R9 and TAS2R31.

Demand for nonnutritive sweeteners continues to increase due to their ability to provide desirable sweetness with minimal calories. Acesulfame potassium and saccharin are well-studied nonnutritive sweeteners commonly found in food products. Some individuals report aversive sensations from these sweeteners, such as bitter and metallic side tastes. Recent advances in molecular genetics have provi...

Long-Term Artificial Sweetener Acesulfame Potassium Treatment Alters Neurometabolic Functions in C57BL/6J Mice

With the prevalence of obesity, artificial, non-nutritive sweeteners have been widely used as dietary supplements that provide sweet taste without excessive caloric load. In order to better understand the overall actions of artificial sweeteners, especially when they are chronically used, we investigated the peripheral and central nervous system effects of protracted exposure to a widely used a...

The artificial sweetener acesulfame potassium affects the gut microbiome and body weight gain in CD-1 mice

Artificial sweeteners have been widely used in the modern diet, and their observed effects on human health have been inconsistent, with both beneficial and adverse outcomes reported. Obesity and type 2 diabetes have dramatically increased in the U.S. and other countries over the last two decades. Numerous studies have indicated an important role of the gut microbiome in body weight control and ...
